The Chinese Gold Panda was first issued in 1982. The coins contain 99.9% gold and are available in five different sizes, each with a different denomination.  From 1982 to 2000, the denominations were 100, 50, 25, 10, and 5 Yuan, respectively. From 2001 to present the denominations are 500, 200, 100, 50, and 20 Yuan, respectively.

The reverse of each coin features the image of a panda or pandas. Each year since the coins have been released, a different reverse image has been used, providing some interesting variety to a complete collection. The obverse design of the coin has been the same each year since issue, featuring the Temple of Heaven in Beijing
